James qualifies easily for 400m final


COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 11, 2011 - Grenadian Kirani James of Alabama University easily qualified for Saturday’ final of the Men’s 400m in the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Texas.
James won heat four in 46.25 seconds, the third fastest qualifying time to advance to a two-section final on Saturday.
Tony McQuay of Florida State took pole position with 45.82 seconds, ahead of Bahaiman Demetrius Pinder of Texas A&M 45.97 seconds. Grenadian Alleyne Francique is an assistant coach at Texas A&M University.
In the Men’s Heptathlon Grenadian Kurt Felix of Boise State is 29 points behind leader Mantas Silkauskas of Kansas State (3347).
Felix is on 3318 points after four events and will attempt to take the lead in the final three events (60mH, Pole Vault and 1000m) on Saturday.
Also to compete on Saturday is another Grenadian, Colleen Felix in the women’s triple jump event. Felix is among the three top competitors in the triple jump.
