BOISE, Idaho, March 7, 2011 - Boise State's Kurt Felix was named the U.S. Track & Field
and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) West Region Field Athlete of
the Year today.
Felix, a senior and native of Grenada, was named the West Region
Field Athlete of the Year after earned an automatic qualifying mark in the
heptathlon on February 25.
While earning the qualifying mark he scored 5,691 points to win
the Western Athletic Conference title in the heptathlon, setting a new Boise
State school record as well as a WAC record and a league meet record.
Felix also earned the WAC triple jump title with a career-best
performance (50-0.75), leading a 1-2-3 Bronco sweep in the event. He also
earned runner-up titles in the high jump and long jump at the 2011 WAC Indoor
Championships.
Felix was named the WAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year while also
earning the WAC Men's High Point Performer honor with 36 points.
Felix's 36 points were a major contribution to the Bronco's 177
total team points, tying Utah State for the 2011 WAC Men's Indoor Track and
Field Team Championship title.
