GEORGE’S, Grenada, March 5, 2011 - A campaign to encourage support for Grenada’s
participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament will be launch here this
month.
The Grenada Football Association (GFA) is launching “Road
to Gold Cup” on March 16 at the National Stadium in St George’s which will
include a major fund raiser drive and the unveiling of a new GFA logo.
The GFA said that the campaign will involve top promoters
including Wayne “Waggy-T” Redhead, Steve Duncan and Oswald “Pele” Darbeau,
along with Wayne James and Patrick Francis, officials of the GFA’s marketing
committee.
The “Road to Gold Cup” campaign is aimed at rallying home
support for the Spice Boys’ second appearance at the Continental Championship
which kicks off in the United States on June 5.
James, who heads the association’s marketing committee,
said that replicas and other branding items will be available at the launch as
well as a raffle where a lucky winner will have an all-expense paid trip to
watch one of the national team’s game in the tournament.
The GFA has requested support from both the government and
the private sector as the team prepares for the tournament.
The national team is expected to play two international friendlies
against St Kitts and Nevis on March 26 and April 2.
CONCACAF will announce the match schedule for the tournament
on Tuesday.
