BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama sophomore All-American Kirani
James was named Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week by the league office
Tuesday afternoon. James earned the honor after running the fastest 400m time
in the world this year at the Meyo Invitational Saturday in South Bend, Ind.,
with a time of 45.47.
This marks the second time James has been named SEC Runner of
the Week in 2011. Two weeks ago he posted what remains the fastest 200m time in
the world at 20.58 in the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
James has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor
Championships in the 200m and 400m, owning the fastest world times in both
events in 2011.
James will join teammates in traveling to the Flotrack Husky
Classic in Seattle this weekend. The two day event will be held Feb. 11-12.
