Youth Parliament Opens on Thursday

Tuesday 30th September 2008: The second ever sitting of the St. George Parish Youth Parliament will commence on Thursday 2nd October 2008 from 4.30 pm at the Grenada Boys Secondary School Auditorium in St. George.

Sixteen young men and women will debate the resolution: “Be it resolved, that any female who becomes pregnant during her teenage years should be allowed to continue pursuing her education at a public educational institution, during and after her pregnancy or after the legal three month maternity period".

This sitting is the fourth for 2008 following the successful Parish Youth Parliaments in Carriacou, St. Andrew and St. Patrick. The St. George Youth Parliamentarians have been in training over the past few months under the guidance of facilitator Mr. Glen Alexander.

Anderson Gaskin, St George Team Leader and coordinator of the activity states that the general public can expect an exciting insightful debate as the issue being discussed at this sitting is one that is highlighted in the school system.

Mr. Gaskin also urged the general public and especially the secondary and primary schools in the St. George area to come and give their support to this positive youth activity.

This activity will be one of the first in Youth Month 2008.
