Police Officers Charged

Tuesday September 30, 2008 - Five members of the Royal Grenada Police Force were today charged for various offenses.

Police Constable Kelvin Knights attached to the Western Fire Division was today slapped with the charge of indecent assault.

The charge was laid as a result of an investigation conducted by Officers of the Western Division into a report made on September 7th 2008, involving a 17 year old female residing at Central Depradine Street St. John’s.

The incident involving the 17 year old occurred on September 2nd 2008 at Lower Depradine Street in Gouyave, St. John.

Knights was granted bail to the sum of EC $6000 and is due to make his first appearance at the Gouyave Magistrate Court on October 28th 2008.

Meanwhile Police Constables Larry John, Kingsley Mc Lean, David George and Lester Benjamin were charged for causing harm and common assault.

The charge of causing harm was laid against John, Mc Lean and George and charges of common assault and causing harm were laid against Benjamin.

The charges resulted from an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department into occurrences during a police operation on Hog Island on September 4th 2008.

The Officers were granted bail to the sum of EC $2000 each and are scheduled to appear before the St. George’s Magistrate Court on October 28th 2008.

Commenting on these developments Commissioner of Police Mr. James Clarkson said, The Royal Grenada Police Force will not be a safe haven for any one who breaks the law.

Our Officers will be held accountable for their actions, and must be an example to the communities in which they serve. Any Officer found breaking the law, and /or violating the Police standing orders will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.
