GBSS Alumni NY elects new executive


BROOKLYN, New York, May 15, 2011 - Four women were elected to the new executive of the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School (GBSS) Alumni Association of New York. They were among six new officers elected at the General Meeting of the Alumni Association in Brooklyn on Sunday.
The new President of the Alumni Association is Michael Bascombe, with Jacinta Grant as the Vice President. Robert Marecheau retained the post as Secretary and will be assisted by Orsline Ollivierre-Fraser.
Mr Arthur Wardally was elected Treasurer with Brian Steele as assistant treasurer and Nimrod Ollivierre as Public Relations Officer and Nadine Harris-Charles as the assistant PRO.
The Ex-Officio members are former President Kenrick Lewis, Godric Pursoo, Brian Pitt and Grace King.
Among the immediate priorities of the new executive are the continuous recruitment drive, preparations to participate in Grenada Day Celebrations in New York, Scholarship Fund and the annual Labour Day weekend fundraiser event.
“It’s a new chapter in the legacy of the alumni as we bridge the generation gap,” said Bascombe, who was one of two members nominated for the presidency post.
He also congratulated Mr Kenrick Lewis and his outgoing executive for the work they have been doing including the Scholarship Fund which has raised and disbursed tens of thousands of dollars to support academic, extracurricular and physical plant projects at the GBSS, scholarships to students of Grenadian and Caribbean heritage to pursue post-secondary education at accredited two and four year colleges and universities and to contribute to deserving charities in the United States as well as in Grenada.
