CARICOM ICT Ministers Meeting Friday in Grenada

ST GEORGE’S, May 26, 2011 (GIS) – Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas will deliver remarks Friday, May 27, at a CARICOM meeting of ministers responsible for Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
It’s the 36th Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on ICT.
Friday’s meeting begins 9.30 a.m. and will be held at the Grenadian Rex Resorts in St. George’s.
Mr. Thomas, who is also Minister of Information and ICT, will be joined at the meeting by Senator Arley Gill, Minister of State for Information, ICT and Culture in the Prime Minister’s Office.
The COTED meeting was preceded by a two-day gathering in St. George’s of regional ICT officials.
One of the items officials discussed, and which will be raised at the ministerial level on Friday, is a draft Regional Digital Development Strategy (RDDS).
According to CARICOM, the RDDS is aimed at guiding regional ICT activities and initiatives, and in using ICT as a critical tool to advance the Caribbean on its path to an information and knowledge society.
The ministerial meeting of COTED comes just one week after Grenada hosted TEXPO, a four-technology exposition of the Grenada Government and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union.
