Defence counsel wants judicial probe into Police actions


ST GEORGE’S, January 3, 2012 - Criminal defence counsel Anselm Clouden is calling for an eminent jurist conducts an independent and impartial inquiry into the alleged excessive use of force by Police in Grenada.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday Clouden, who is representing one of the accused officers in the manslaughter trial of a Grenadian-born Canadian resident, says that there seems to be a spate of excessive force by the Police against persons in their custody.
“We have to put a system in pace where it has been done before, where instances of this nature occurs there is usually a commission of inquiry set up to establish a protocol for Policemen who have detainees or suspects in their custody,” he said.
