Inclement weather postpones track & field meets

ST GEORGE’S, March 1, 2012 – The inclement weather now being experienced in Grenada is affecting many of the Track & Field Championships scheduled for Thursday.
Three Secondary Schools – St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS), St Rose Modern Secondary School (SRMSS) and Westmorland Secondary School (WSS) -  have already postponed their athletics championships as well as the Beaulieu New Testament School, St Patrick Primary Schools and Carriacou Primary Schools.
Heavy overnight and early morning rain have left many of the track venues soggy and unfit for competition.
“This decision was taken in the best interest of the athletes and the spectators,” an official of SAASS said. “Weather permitting, we are considering either Friday or Saturday as possible alternatives for the Meet.”
St John’s Christian Secondary School and MacDonald College also postponed their Track & Field Meets scheduled for Friday, and with more rain in the forecast there is the possibility of further interruptions in the athletics’ calendar this week.
