James maintains unbeaten run

NEW YORK, September 11, 2011 – World 400m champion Grenadian Kirani James maintained his unbeaten form in winning the Men’s 400 metres at the ISTAF Athletics Meeting in Berlin on Sunday.
James cruised to the finish in 45.33 seconds, well ahead of Costa Rican Nery Brenes in 45.62 and Rondell Bartholomew of Grenada in 45.82.
Except for Bartholomew and American Jamaal Torrance, Sunday’s field was relatively inexperienced.
Also in that meet, Phylicia George whose parents are from Grenada but competes for Canada finished fourth in the Women’s 100 metres hurdles in 12.94 seconds.

It was James’ fourth consecutive victory since turning professional in August. He opened his professional season with a victory at the Aviva London Grand Prix on August 5 and then crowned as World Champion in Daegu, South Korea on August 30. James also won convincingly in Zurich last Thursday to top the Diamond League standings in the 400m.
Bartholomew and James have completed their 2011 outdoor season.
Over in the Isle of Man where two swimmers and two track athletes are representing Grenada at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
In the Men’s 200m, Judd Cadet was listed DNS and Nerena Aberdeen was fifth in Heat 2 of the Women’s 800m in 2:28.56.
In swimming, Oreoluwa Cherebin was 13th overall in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke in 2:57.37 and Andrew Hopkin was 13th in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke in 33.89 seconds and 22nd in the Men’s 50m Freestyle in 26.09 seconds.
