by Michael Bascombe
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, January 14, 2011 - Grenada wants to establish and develop ties with non-traditional allies such as rapidly developing nations like Brazil, Russia, India and China also known as the BRIC Countries.
In the presentation of the US$301 million budget on Friday, Finance Minister Nazim Burke said that Grenada will also continue to pursue bilateral cooperation with States in the Middle East and North Africa.
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to make concerted efforts to ensure that relations with Grenada’s traditional allies are maintained and strengthened.
According to Burke, the priority areas for the Foreign Ministry in 2011 will be a revision of Grenada’s Foreign Policy to ensure a greater focus on Investment and Resource Mobilisation; expansion of diplomatic relations with selected countries and engaging the Grenadian Diaspora to participate in and contribute to social and economic development of the island.
The reviewing of the criteria for the appointment of Grenada’s Honorary Consuls abroad; development of a Career Foreign Service and the strengthening of the capacity of the Ministry and its overseas missions to implement Government’s Foreign Policy more effectively.
