Training for Table Tennis coaches

ST GEORGE’S, July 9, 2010 - More than 35 local and aspiring table tennis coaches will be exposed to international training between July 14 and 25.

The training is being provided by the International Table Tennis Federation, Olympic Solidarity, the Grenada Olympic Committee and the Table Tennis Association.

Moncho Ortega Montes of Spain will spend two weeks in Grenada facilitating two workshops – each attracting 20 participants drawn from secondary schools, clubs and table tennis players.

The first of the two workshops begins Wednesday July 14 at the Public Workers Union Centre with an official opening ceremony.

The Table Tennis Association has invited the Minister of Sports to declare the workshop open. During the eight-hour per day workshop Coach Ortega Montes will expose the coaches to the fundamentals of coaching and training players, among other techniques.

It is the first time in almost two decades the Table Tennis Association is staging a workshop for coaches. Vice President of the Association Dr. Alister Antoine welcomes the workshop saying it will provide the foundation to revive greater interest in the sport among the youth.
