CARACAS, Venezuela, April 7, 2011 - Two Grenadian students recently
graduated from a Venezuelan University after completing studies in sports
related fields.
Edmond Mc Sween of St George and
Denva Welch of St Mark completed bachelor degrees at the Universidad Deportiva
del Sur and are preparing to return home to make their contributions to the
development to Grenada.
Mc Sween graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in Sports Administration Technology while Welch
completed a Bachelor of Science in Physical Activities and Health.
Grenada’s Ambassador to
Venezuela, His Excellency George Mac Leish congratulated both students on their
achievements, noting their specialized areas of training.
“Your qualifications are timely
since Grenada continues to produce world-class junior athletes and we would
need professional administrators and coaches to provide support,” he said.

“While you celebrate your accomplishments,
please do not lose sight of the need to continue to develop and build capacity.
The technological advances in sports demands that you continue the pursuit of
post graduate degrees. The better qualified you are will determine the quality
of preparation for our athletes.”
The Sports Administration and
Technology programme contributes to the formation of professionals, who would
be capable of managing leisure, sports and physical activities programmes that
are necessary for the health and recreation for all.
The graduate will be able to
research and develop technologies needed to improve the quality of life through
sports and leisure services. The programme also includes courses in accounting,
management, planning, marketing, economics, and computer applications.
The Sports Technology management
programme focuses on the business aspects of sports in culture, sports
information, facility management, human recourse, sport ethics, sports law and
sport finance.
The graduate in Physical Activity
and Health Training will be able to evaluate the physical condition and
prescribe physical exercises geared towards health as well as promote and
evaluate the development of lasting and autonomous habits of the practice of
physical activity and sports among adults, elderly and persons with
disabilities.
The programme also involves the
development of school sports among children, adolescents and children with
special educational needs.
