Hillsborough, Carriacou, April 1st, 2010- A Brazilian technical team will visit Carriacou from April 8th to conduct a development suitability study for the proposed free port to be set up on the 13-square-mile island.
The team is from Urbaniza, the Brazilian company that has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Government of Grenada for the port development project. The visit comes one month after the signing of the MOU.
While in Carriacou, team members will collect data on site boundaries, topography, and other physical conditions affecting the proposed site of the project at Dumfries. They will also look at the landside and waterside capacities and other factors that will determine the feasibility of Dumfries as the project site.
Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Senator George Prime, said the study and port development are important steps in the Grenada Government’s commitment to building an economy in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
A free port is an area in a country that has special customs and fiscal regime. Its purpose is promoting the industrialisation of goods and the rendering of services to foreign markets.

I can't find this company anywhere on the internet. It would be good to see who they really are and what they've done.
I sincerely hope this "project" doesn't get away from us.
japan, Taiwan and China came now its the Brazillians turn. At least 250 acres of Carriacou given over for a long time. Small businesses will not be able to compete.
