Teenager charged for manslaughter

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Monday Nov 10, 2008 – Police have charged a 19 year-old bus conductor for causing the death of a 22 year-old Grand Anse man.

Police said that Chris Modeste of Belmont, St George’s was slapped with manslaughter charges after he allegedly stabbed Nigel Benjamin during an altercation at the Main Bus Terminus on Friday evening.

Benjamin succumbed to the stab wounds on Saturday morning. Modeste made his first court appearance on Monday.

Benjamin’s death is the 17th homicide recorded for the year.

Meantime, Police investigators have ruled foul play in the death of a 33 year-old construction worker of Darbeau, St George’s.

Officers discovered the lifeless body of Carl Smith on Sunday in the River Road area.

Police said that a post mortem has determined the cause of death was an acute myocardial infarction (clogging of the artery).

Supermarket burglarised

The lawmen were also investigating a burglary at the Food Depot in River Road.

It’s reported that the popular establishment was broken into sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Police say a resident of South St George has been detained and assisting officers with their investigations.
