ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, May 10, 2011 - Grenada is preparing for a regional technology exposition, commonly
referred to as TEXPO. It will showcase the many uses and the importance of
information and communication technology (ICT) in modern society.
Grenada is
the 15th leg of the roadshow, which is a project of the Caribbean Telecommunications
Union and the Ministry of Information, ICT & Culture of the Grenada
Government.
Grenada’s
ICT Director, Loretta Simon, has underscored the significance of the roadshow,
whose theme is “Harnessing the Power of Innovation: The Engine for ICT-enabled
Development.’’ It will be held from May 16 – 19.
“Since ICT
is impacting everyone’s life,’’ said Simon, “we need to show everyone how they
can leverage ICT to better perform their day-to-day duties.”
TEXPO will
be launched in Grenada with an official opening ceremony on May 16.
Activities
in the ensuing three days will include public fora, where topics such as cybercrime
and careers in ICT will be discussed.
In
addition, a technology exhibition will be held on May 17 and 18 at the Grenada
Trade Centre from 8:30 a.m.
TEXPO
concludes on May 19 with an outreach caravan and roadshow, beginning in St.
George’s at 8:30 a.m. It will travel up the western side, making stops in
Gouyave, Sauteurs and Grenville.
An outreach
activity will also be held at the Resource Centre in Carriacou on May 19, starting
