Stanford 20/20 and WICB to Sign 5-Year Agreement

Stanford 20/20 On WICB Annual Cricket Calendar

St. Johns Antigua, 4 September 2007. The WICB and the Stanford 20/20 Board of Directors, following a meeting held on Friday August 31, 2007, will shortly sign an agreement for a five-year franchise that will ensure the continuation of the popular Stanford 20/20 Regional Tournament and support from the Stanford organization for cricket development in participating Caribbean countries.

This progress ensures that the Stanford 20/20 Tournament will become part of the WICB’s annual cricket calendar together with the regional One Day and Four Day tournaments.

The meeting, held in Antigua, was attended by the new WICB President, Dr. Julian Hunte, Board Directors, Gregory Shillingford and Enoch Lewis, and Acting CEO Barry Thomas. The Stanford 2020 Board representation comprised 10 of the 14 cricket legends and Kenneth Allen, QC. Sir Allen Stanford was unable to attend the meeting due to a family commitment, but was in full support of the meeting and very pleased with the results.

Dr. Hunte was also very satisfied………… “what was achieved today was a small step but a very important one. We all recognise that to achieve our goals, which will all result in the betterment of West Indies Cricket, we need to work together and continue to have constant and open dialogue.”

“We have been very impressed by this meeting with Dr. Hunte. He has shown us that he truly has West Indies Cricket as his primary interest and we are all very heartened by his immediate desire to work together with us as a team,” stated Stanford Board Member Desmond Haynes following the meeting.

Both parties hope to be able to announce more on the progress of the partnership in the near future.
