SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican
Republic, Aug 6, 2026 - Anderson Peters delivered Grenada’s first medal of
the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games on Thursday, winning the men’s
javelin throw with a mark of 83.95 metres.
Peters secured the gold ahead of
Costa Rica’s Ivan Sibaja, who threw 82.15m, while Colombia’s Billy Julio
claimed the bronze with 81.02m.
Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and
Tobago had moved into third place with a second-round effort of 80.92m but was
later displaced by Julio and had to settle for fourth.
Peters’ winning throw fell just
short of the Games record of 84.91m, set by Cuba’s Guillermo Martinez in
Cartagena, Colombia, on July 25, 2006.
Kelsie Murrell-Ross later added
Grenada’s second medal of the day, taking bronze in the women’s shot put with a 16.92m throw. It was the best of her four legal throws.
Rosa Ramirez gave the host nation
another gold medal with a winning effort of 18.90m, while Cuba’s Dianelis Delis
secured silver with 18.57m.
On the track, Nazzio John
finished sixth in the men’s 200 metres final in 21.01 seconds.
Jose Figueroa of Puerto Rico won
the title in 19.98 seconds, with the Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando
taking silver in 20.47. Aaron Charles of Trinidad and Tobago collected the
bronze in 20.63.
Jamaica’s Tyquendo Tracey
finished fourth in 20.66, followed by compatriot Kadrian Goldson in 20.73.
